Gharanas of Kathak refers to distinct features of the dance form nurtured by master practitioners and passed on through familial lineage. Experience the subtlety of the Lucknow Gharana, the enthralling prowess of the Jaipur Gharana, and the expansive flourishes of the Banaras Gharana. Specially commissioned SIA presentation by Kathak Rhythms.

SONGS OF DHARWAD​
FRIDAY, May 19 – 8pm, MATCHBOX4

Dharwad is considered the Mecca of Hindustani classical vocal music from where legendary singers like Bhimsen Joshi, Kumar Gandharv, Gangubai Hangal, and Mallikajun emerged. Pandit Kaivaly Kumar Gurav brings Dharwad tradition classical
and semi-classical bandishes, thumris, bhajans, and Marathi abhangs and natya sangeet. Accompanied on tabla by Pandit Subhen Chatterjee and Pandit Sanatan Goswami on harmonium.

INDIAN CLASSICAL RAGAS ON PIANO​

GYPSY RAGAS

Oliver Rajamani’s Gypsy Raga is an enchanting musical journey of the Romani (Gypsy) people who migrated from India, arriving in Europe in the late 14th century. The concert showcases Indian and Romani master musicians with original compositions performed on Indian instruments, Middle Eastern oud, Spanish flamenco guitar, Eastern European Gypsy accordion, and world percussion.

SAHIR, Bollywood ke anokhe sukhanvar
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28 – 8pm, VIRTUAL CONCERT

Sahir Ludhianvi is the unique sukhanvar (shayar) in that while most, if not all, other lyricists, wrote for Bollywood what the Bollywood demanded; Bollywood adapted what Sahir wrote for Urdu Adab. The specially commissioned multi-media virtual concert highlights Sahir’s great contributions to Urdu adab as well as Bollywood.
